Yes, I'm talking about the new show on MTV. But, seriously, it's intense stuff! Basically the premises of the show is about 12 high schools that partake in a social program in an attempt to break down the walls of cliques and emotional boundaries of high school students. Students participate in several exercises, including a 'challenge day' along with their fellow classmates and even some faculty, that in the end, leave not a dry eye in the place. And yes, myself included! The 'challenge day' sets students/faculty in small groups and they take turn going around the circle, starting with the statement, 'If you really knew me...' As the exercise goes on, students start to realize that they have no clue what other students go through. And more so, that they're not the only ones that are going through the issues of a battered home, drugs, suicide, racism, peer pressure, etc.
It was an uplifting show (bit of a far cry from MTV's other shows) and seemed to be unscripted and quite real. I give them credit for the positive message they try to get across. And whether or not the show will change the face of high school students as we know it, I respect the concept.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, minus the fact that it was on at 11 p.m. and I totally stayed up to watch it until midnight. And I must've been into it, because MTV replays the heck out of things, I could've watched it later on.
I'll admit, it did bring me back to my high schools days for a hot second and think about the cliques that made up Warren Mott High School. Hmm, what clique was I in? Well I liked to dabble in many, but I'd say I was in the 'leadership' clique. Holler!!!
